The world news is showing us so much upheaval that it can overwhelm us and move us into our fears.  So how do we rise above and have a new view, a new dream?  It takes a willingness on our part to make change.  But even when we are willing to change, things happen and it makes us difficult to move on.  But there is always hope and things can get better.

I am now a ten year cancer survivor.  Breast cancer really took me by surprise.  I had been thinking positive thoughts, meditating and working at my wellness centre.  I thought I was doing everything to be well and healthy. So I went through a lot of self-reflection of my life, my values and spiritual beliefs.  I made changes as I healed.

Fortunately, something told me I was well.  I felt it from within and heard those words in my meditations…”All is well.” I began to ask all my friends and family to only think of me as being well.  I saw myself going through an operation that would remove part of me that was not well. I was being protected and I had trillions of cells that were well!!  I focused on those cells in my body and each day I told them that I loved them.  Now, I know this may sound silly but Quantum Science tells us that cells respond to sound and they respond to cells near them.  Healthy cells will overcome unhealthy cells.  So I still tell my cells that I love each one of them everyday.  I also send them Reiki each day. I do my best to eat well and exercise each day. I have even started to go horseback riding after 22 years and loving every minute!

But meditation is the key for me.  It provides a shelter and protection where I can share my thoughts, release my fears to the universe, and stay centered in love.  I meditate each morning for a few minutes to visualize the kind of day I would like to have.  If I have a problem, I ask for guidance.  If a loved one needs help, I ask for assistance.  I send love to all my family and beloved friends.  I visualize a world where people are compassionate and care about each other and live in peace.  I know there are billions of loving people who want a safe world for their children.

I realized that I control my thoughts.  No one can make me sad, angry or fearful.  These feelings are mine and I am responsible for them.  We all have reasons to be angry and to be upset but we have to learn to stay in peace, to be in love with ourselves and with others.  This is quite a task~but it is possible.  I know I must be willing to love me, to accept myself as I age (with all its changes), and most of all to love you.

Together, we can all have abundance, love and joy.  These are some words I heard in a meditation…

Abundance…Love…Joy

Feel…Breathe…Live

The time is yours to live and explore

To love as never before

Listen to your heart

You will know the way

 

When you are in doubt, breathe in, be still, and feel through your heart…love is the way…the answer to all your problems…the way to move through each day.

To live without fear is to live in the present moment with love and compassion.”

How we deal with our fears determines how we view our world.  Our world view determines how we make choices about how we live.  Our fears affect all parts of us…emotions, physical health, mental wellness, spiritual growth.  What we fear may be rooted from our past or something we are afraid might happen to us in the future.  They seem very real to us and can control our thoughts and actions.  However, if we realize that fears are our ‘what if’s’ in life it helps us to move through them and release their power over us.  By learning to release them is a huge step to healing and well-being.

However, learning to release our fears can sometimes be difficult especially if we are feeling alone and not sure what our next step should be.  This is when being in the present moment is so important.  It is only in the present moment that we can create change by shifting our present view.  For example, you may have an exam or test to complete.  Your fear is that you will fail.  In the present moment, you have not failed.  You can make the choice to study and learn as much as you can.  In the present moment, you can relax, enjoy your studies, focus on what you need to learn and only hold thoughts of success.  If the thought of failing comes in, take a deep breath, acknowledge your fear and release it.  Replace it with a positive image of your success.  I had this deep fear of failure for years.  I did not think I was smart enough to go to university.  It took me till I was 40 years old before I took the steps to try some university courses.  I put aside my fears of failing and began my studies.  Two years later, I had completed my degree…and graduated on the Dean’s Honour roll!!!

So I learned to overcome my fears by focusing in the present moment.  I had a dream of completing university and I worked hard to make it come true.  I learned that my fears were truly my ‘what if’s’ and that they are my made up thoughts…not what was really happening in the present moment.

Once you realize that you can create your future from your thoughts and feelings, life can begin to change.   There is always a new way to look at life where we can feel love and compassion for ourselves and others and this love is only created in the present moment.

So I began to open my heart to discover more about myself and to live in the present moment, instead of worrying so much about the future.  I felt grateful for what I had in my life and this made me feel much better.  Through my meditations I found wisdom about how to live more fully.  Life is ever changing with new challenges but meditation, connecting with Spirit, helps me through and keeps me balanced and peaceful through difficult times.

Mindfulness means to be present to what is, rather than losing ourselves in thoughts of what is no longer or what has not yet come. Mindfulness is an awakening to life, a nonjudgmental awareness of the wonder of the present moment.” ~ Joan Borysenko

My affirmation for today:

Today I give myself permission to be greater than my fears.

When we truly rise above our fears, allowing ourselves to step forward to try something new, magical things seem to occur that support our journey.  Listen to yourself today.  Listen to your thoughts.  Clear your mind of your fears…if only for a moment…and see how you feel.  You have the ability to transform your fears and create something new in your life.  Be courageous to take a new step…move in a loving way…and allow yourself to be empowered by your heart.  Treat yourself with loving compassion and your confidence will grow, your mind will clear…”joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.”

This is a message I receive in a meditation at a time when I was very fearful and feeling very alone~

It is easy to fear

To hide behind thy face

Not to venture forth

Not to find new horizons

Keep up the walls

Build armies of might

Fear all those you near

Tis easy to fear

 

Yet to open thy self to all that is anew

Unknown paths, unknown faces

Tis growth of life

Not easy to face

As changes ye must make

Yet, where fear has left

Only happiness and love remain

    No matter how much you know, if you don’t apply self-improvement principles to your life, they get you nowhere.  So today, lets stop our never-ending quest for new information, and look at these 10 tried-and-true oldies but goodies.  These are things you already know.  But if you focus on them, you will truly change your life.

    1. Practice Kindness. Be kind to yourself and to others. Don’t judge, be mean, hurt or bully. Practice the course of kindness. When you feel a mean thought come up in your mind (whether it is toward someone else or toward yourself), work to curb it. Always be kind in your actions. Kindness can perform miracles.

    2. The present moment is all you have. The past is gone, the future hasn’t arrived. Being mindful in THIS moment is the only way to bring peace into your life. This one is hard for me to implement because (like most of you) I suffer from wanting to plan my future and  from the emotional attachment that goes along with it. Breathe. Meditate. Let go. Keep at it. . .

    3. Listen to Yourself. Your GPS is programmed directly toward bliss, but you’ll only get there if you follow it. It’s easy to get sidetracked. We say yes when we mean no, we are afraid, we think ourselves silly – and so we ignore it. Tune into your intuition and your inner voice. Applying this one small change will have a quantam effect on your life!

    4. Do Your Best. I remember this one best from the Four Agreements. Do your best in whatever you do. Apply yourself, learn, grow. Give everything what you’ve got to give. (Hint: If you’ve listened to yourself, this one becomes easier, because you’ll find yourself increasingly in situations you’ve said YES to.)

    5. Believe in Yourself. If you believe, you will be able to do whatever you want to do in life. If you believe, you’ll be unaffected by anyone who tells you that you can’t. If you believe, you’ll be less afraid and better able to stay true to yourself and what you’re really after.

    6. Be Positive. We all spend so much ENERGY avoiding negative feelings. One of the best ways to do this is to conciously work on staying positive. A positive attitude is it’s own reward, but it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Your positive attitude will make others want to be around you, and will send all kinds of good vibes your way. Whether you explain it in terms of Law Of Attraction principles, or if you have a more earth-bound philosophy, it doesn’t matter. You will see that a sunny outlook attracts more sunshine into your life.

    7. Chill. Just relax. It’s going to be ok. Relaxing is great for your health and great for your mind. You can think more clearly, your blood pressure goes down, and you can let go of whatever was bugging you. So find a healthy way to relax.

    8. Set Your Intentions. Spend time planning your life. Plan your near-term goals. Create a bucket list. DECIDE what you want, or your life will just happen to you without your input, leaving you feeling like you’re barely out of the gate when the race is nearly done. Set your intentions and then make a plan for achieving them.

    9. Remember: You Are Awesome. I mean this literally. Being the mom of two kids, I constantly marvel at how their little bodies just knew how to form (two eyes, one mouth, a tongue, eyelashes). Perfection. Every being really is an awesome creation. So stop feeling so unlovable, unworthy, and powerless. It’s just not so.

    10. Don’t Be Afraid. Really, what could possibly go wrong? If you know that you can handle anything that could happen (and you can), that failure is part of the process, that pain is part of the lesson, then you can work to let go of fear. Fear stinks. It’s a terrible feeling to hold onto, but its effects in our lives may be even worse. Because of fear, we lose our potential to do whatever we are here to do, and we never get to share the gifts we are here to share.

    None of these 10 things are new to you. But focus on them. Practice. Learn more about each one. Do what you need to do to implement them in your life. I promise that through practice, and not just the endless pursuit of NEW and MORE and BETTER information your life will begin to shift.
