When I look back on my life in reflection, I realize that at times I was wandering aimlessly.  The strange thing is that during these times I felt like I was making good choices and moving forward.  Now I know I was with those who did not understand me and I did not understand them.  They did not understand my search for my ‘self’. I did wander aimlessly until I moved into my heart and began to love my ‘self’…then my life began to have more purpose and meaning. I began to meet people with whom I could “sit under a tree in blossom”…and embrace the light!  I began my Happiness Circles that became my Peaceful Way gatherings and experienced greater peace and love.

Don’t wander aimlessly!
by Rumi

My heart, sit only with those
who know and understand you.
Sit only under a tree
that is full of blossoms.

In the bazaar of herbs and potions
don’t wander aimlessly
find the shop with a potion that is sweet
If you don’t have a measure
people will rob you in no time.
You will take counterfeit coins
thinking they are real.

Don’t fill your bowl with food from
every boiling pot you see.
Not every joke is humorous, so don’t search
for meaning where there isn’t one.
Not every eye can see,
not every sea is full of pearls.

My heart, sing the song of longing
like a nightingale.
The sound of your voice casts a spell
on every stone, on every thorn.
First, lay down your head
then one by one
let go of all distractions.

Embrace the light and let it guide you
beyond the winds of desire.
There you will find a spring, and nourished by it sea waters;
like a tree you will bear fruit forever.

• Ghazal (Ode) 563, from
Rumi’s “Divan-e Shams” (“The Collection of Shams”), by Kolin and
Mafi, and by Professor Arberry:

Today I welcome guest writer, Julie Redstone, “Movements of the Heart”

MOVEMENTS OF THE HEART

Julie Redstone
The human heart exists in beauty and in limitation.  Its beauty lies in the fact that it is capable of great love, great tenderness, and great vulnerability.  It’s limitation lies in the same fact.  Yet, the limitation of today is the expansion of tomorrow, as the heart begins to feel a greater Love moving within itself, and as it awakens more fully to its own power of expression.

The love that the human heart calls its own, the love that it seeks in order to satisfy its desires and hold at bay the sense of loneliness that would exist without it – such love is only a small portion of what the human heart is capable of.  Because of its need for self-protection, and because it perceives itself to be small when, in fact, it is quite large, the human heart fastens on the one love that it hopes will nourish its life and fill its empty spaces, instead of the larger Love that would restore to it the experience of its own wholeness.

The heart has been taught to expect certain things of life and to give certain things to life.  In this sense, it is influenced by current perceptions regarding the nature of relationships and the nature of love, and no longer knows its own potential.  It no longer realizes the vastness from which it came.  Such a heart often goes through its days confined within a small sphere of contact with others, not perceiving its relationship to the greater Whole, not perceiving the great Heart of humanity that beats within its own.  It therefore, understandably, seizes upon the experience of ‘falling in love’ with one other as the central experience of life, because this event lets it know more fully than anything else, what it means to be truly alive.

Yet, even this experience of love which is so profoundly moving and enriching to life can also be limiting.  It can limit the knowledge of what love IS, believing it to be embodied within one relationship, whereas in truth the intensity of love, the depth of love, the joy of love, and the tenderness of love, are part of what it means to be alive. These qualities belong to Love itself, and to the deeper nature of the heart as it brings its essence into everyday experience.

With a more awakened heart, it is possible to be deeply in love with life.  It is possible to deeply love one’s own being.  It is possible to become identified with love to such a degree that one wants to extend it everywhere.  These possibilities exist but must be awakened within the human heart.  They exist, but they must be perceived as real.

The relationship with a beloved partner is one expression of limitless love. Such a relationship is often singled out among all others and asked to compensate the self for what is lacking in the rest of life. However, love is not meant to be confined within such small quarters.  For the deepest bonds of love between two who love resonate with the great harmonic of the universe.  They resonate with the music of Creation.  They are part of that Creation, and can only find their truest and most complete expression when experienced as part of a greater Whole.  Indeed, a complete partnership in love will seek to reach out to others – will seek to reach out to the world in order to bless it.  Part of this naturally happens through bringing new life into the world – through children and the contribution they make to the future.  Another part happens through the extension of love directly – through one’s conscious participation in the great circle of Life.

Many who love today still believe that love is limited and that there is not enough to go around.  Therefore, one must concentrate on the few who are the closest – on children, parents, family. and friends.  This perception of love is based on a heart that does not yet know itself.  It is based on past learning, not on what actually is. The perception of the smallness of the human heart arises out of the history of separation from the wellspring of Infinite Love and the Spirit that dwells within all.  Nevertheless, this well remains, and the water is still there.  And those who look for it will find it within and can allow it to enrich the life that they lead.

For each human heart holds within itself a spark of the Divine.  And each human heart is capable of embracing not only others, but its own existence as well. This is the love out of which the human heart has been fashioned which contains the Divine within the human. This is the love that is meant to encircle the earth, and to restore and nourish all of life.

How are you doing under the influences of a partial Lunar Eclipse and a Super Blood Wolf Moon?  I love full moons and the January full moon, along with moving into a new year, is always a reminder it is a time to get rid of negative energy and create transformations to enhance our lives as we move into a new lunar cycle.

The full moon glow is a beautiful reminder for us to ‘see the beauty’ in our lives and in the universe! This month we have what is called a Super Blood Wolf Moon on January 21,2019.

We know the full moon’s pull on the earth affects the tides of the oceans.  As we are made up of mostly water, it affects our systems too! The full moon’s energies stir us up whether we like it or not. We often feel unbalanced and moody.  So I am sharing a meditation for you to do today, to open you to new inspirations and to become active to really allow your true self to come forth.

“Follow your bliss” as Joseph Campbell said rings so true!  In spite of the chaos that swirls around us, we can live in peace within ourselves and follow our bliss and passions!

Daily meditation, exercise and a healthy diet are the keys to being well.  Meditation opens our heart but also clears our minds of a lot of clutter is doesn’t need!!

Thich Nhat Hahn is a most Buddhist monk who has spent his life sharing how to meditate and to live in the present moment with compassion and love. He teaches breath work to begin our meditations.  Focusing on your breath tells your mind and heart “it’s time to relax”. Turn on some soft music.

Super Blood Wolf Full Moon Meditation

Practice gentle breathing before you meditate each day. I like to journal after my meditations to record my feelings and new reflections.

Relaxation through breathing:

Breathe in and out gently for a minute. Focus on your breathe as it moves intp your nostrils, into your lungs and out through your nostrils…

Then begin thinking these words as you breathe in and breathe out:

Breathing in, I calm my body

Breathing out, I smile to my whole body with gladness

Breathing in, I dwell in the present moment

Breathing out, I know it is a wonderful moment

Smiling to my body, I breathe in

Releasing the tensions in my body, I breathe out

Now, let’s embrace the light energies of the Super Blood Wolf Moon

Now bring your awareness to the top (crown) of your head, and visualize the brilliant full moon radiating its light to you.  This light is full of Love and healing energy.   Bring this Light to you heart and fill your heart with Love.

Feel love for yourself as your heart fills with light. Now send this love to every cell in your body.

Feel yourself in a bath of love and take time now to move into your quiet space within to reflect what you would like to become…be aware of your emotions and release…anger or fear…let it go…feel your body relaxing as you let go of tensions and what is no longer serving you…breathe gently in and out, in and out…

enjoy a few minutes in silence.. in stillness and peace…

You may want to visualize and invite ‘wolf’ into your full moon meditation to guide or teach you. Ask ‘what do I need to learn?” Listen for a reply…

Close your meditation, when you are ready, with gratitude for all your blessings and for the beauty of the moonlight that flows to us each month with loving, transformative energies that encourage us to grow and evolve in new, wondrous ways.  Write down your reflections and visualize your new future.

Let’s howl tonight!

So why not howl with wolf at the moon!  Keep warm if you venture outside if you live in Grey county.  Super cold here. This morning a -29C wind chill factor brrr…but it is winter here in Canada! I think the wolves will be in their dens but maybe they howl inside them!

Valentine’s Day encourages us to share our love with our Beloved ones. It began as a day for lover’s to express their love (and the florist shops to sell roses and cards), but it has evolved into a day that brings the importance of taking time to tell others how much we love them and how important they are to us.

For my husband and I, it is still a ‘lovey’ day with cards and chocolates.  This morning 2e went to Georgian Bay where the sun was shining brightly on the icy banks along the shore and it was so beautiful.  We soaked up the beauty. Then we drove up Blue Mountain and out into the rolling countryside.

So Valentine’s Day is a day where we can express our love and be so grateful for our family and friends who share their love with us. It can also be a time for reflection and meditation.

Would you like to try a simple meditation with me?

Meditating is a simple process.  It requires only a quiet place, concentration on your breathing, slow relaxation of all your muscles and allowing your mind to quiet.  If you like, play some quiet, soothing music.

As today is Valentine’s Day in your meditation visualize a beautiful pink flower and allow yourself to feel the love that the flower was sending to you.  Try this short meditation and fill your heart with love for yourself and for others. I will send some to you too!

Heart Flower Meditation

Begin by focusing on your breathing…in and out, in and out.  With each breath in and out, feel all the muscles in your body from your head to your toes begin to relax…more and more.  Allow your mind to quiet and allow yourself to drift into your heart space…deeper into your consciousness…a space of peace, love and stillness…see beautiful pink light…and a pink flower that slowly opens its petals and sends love to you…your heart fills with love…enjoy the present moment….listen…

Poet’s have been writing about the power of love for centuries. Here’s is a moving poem about love by Attar..

Intoxicated by the wine of love
From each a mystic silence Love demands.
What do all seek so earnestly? ‘Tis Love.
What do they whisper to each other? Love.
Love is the subject of their inmost thoughts.
In Love no longer ‘thou’ and ‘I’ exist,
For Self has passed away in the Beloved.
Now will I draw aside the veil from Love,
And in the temple of mine inmost soul,
Behold the Friend; Incomparable Love.
He who would know the secret of both worlds,
Will find the secret of them both, is Love

Farid ud Din Attar– translation Margaret Smith –

From “The Jawhar Al-Dhat  “

Attar was one of the Attar 1119 -1220 most ancient and highly revered poets of Persia. He inspired later Sufi poets, such as Rumi and Hafiz

Happy Love Day…May love fill your heart everyday.

John O'Donohue

John O’Donohue wrote a wonderful book called Aman Cara.  In my Peaceful Way meditation group, we spent some lovely weeks reading it and reflecting on his insights about what is our relationship with our Aman Cara, our soul friend.

He also talks about aging and how our life comes together as we age . It is as if we gather together all the pieces of our journey. He says “old age offers the opportunity to integrate and bring together the multiplicity of directions that you have traveled.  It is a time when you can bring the circle of your life together to where your longing can be awakened and new possibilities can come alive in you.

I never thought of being older as a time of ‘new possibilities’ but now I am ‘older’ I realize how true this can be.  It definitely is a time where I feel more freedom.  I have let go of many regrets and disappointments as I realize I cannot change them.  Indeed, they were probably very good teachers for me.

We all have life challenges but we can learn at an earlier age how to cope with them and learn that we are creative beings that can make changes.  We are all creative beings.  Even if you think you are not creating, you are.  You have thoughts and opinions every day.  These thoughts are important because they influence your view of the world.

So how do we keep a positive view of the world when we see chaos?  We learn how to listen to our heart and we do this through learning to meditate or have quiet reflection time.  We learn to not hold onto anger and learn to forgive even the most difficult people or situations.  This can be difficult but if we really want to be ‘free’ and to have a happy life, we must transform and live from our hearts.

It is amazing how you will attract new people in your life as your energy lifts into a kinder and more compassionate place.  In the teaching of USUI Reiki, there are beautiful affirmations for practitioners of Reiki to integrate into their lives each day.  If you are having difficulty making changes, say these affirmations each day.

“Just for today,

I will not worry

I will not be angry

I will do my work honestly

I will give thanks for my many blessings

I will be kind to my neighbour and all living things”

If we all lived by these affirmations, the world would heal and live in peaceful communities.

Deep gratitude for John O’Donohue for all his beautiful poetry and blessings. John passed 10 years ago. His books are available on amazon.ca. https://www.johnodonohue.com/

Have a beautiful, peaceful day,

Jane

meditation beauty

As our days gradually lengthen, we have the opportunity to move into our winter season to spend quiet moments of reflection and to open to more light in our heart. As I meditate, I envision a beautiful golden light flowing through my body, mind and spirit. The winter solstice reminds us that light is ever shining. On days that seem sad and dark, I move within to my quiet place within my heart and spirit lightens me.  Even if I tap into this source of love for only a few minutes, I feel better.

So let us welcome light and love into our hearts today…

A welcoming light

A uniting of cells

Movement between worlds

Receiving and birthing

Allows for transitions

Comfort eases change

Weightless waves flow

All light becomes one

Jane Rosalea Brown

May light lift and keep you well. Enjoy the spirit of the season!

Here we are at the beginning of a New Year with lots of people promoting programs to change us, to help us create the life we want by encouraging us to live fully and to make affirmations or intentions about how we would like to be and how we can be our authentic Self. I am in this group of people with Conscious Aging that starts in April.

Now all these ‘intentions’ and programs can be good for us. Positive energies bring positive results in our lives.  Affirmations keep us focused on our visions or dreams. Self- reflection and meditation takes us within and helps our to calm and feel connected spiritually.  But sometimes we can feel bombarded by all these suggestions no matter how well-meaning these practices may be.

However, I am going to offer my Jane’s Peaceful Path tip. For today, stop trying to be something different.  Everything in this moment is what is best for you…even though it may not appear that way.  For today, simply stay in love…all day…every moment…with everyone you meet, with nature, with all life but most of all, with you.  For today, observe how your life is unfolding as you stay in love…magical things happen when we stay in love.

Here is a lovely video that I have played at my retreats…just what we need to stay in love! Enjoy

“Love, Peace, Wisdom” by Bliss

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elzh8cUOImc

Bliss – Love Peace and Wisdom lyrics

“If Love were a bird, I would stroke her bright feathers

Then I’d watch her fly free, cross the still of the dawn

And if Peace were a mountain, we’d gather around her

To bathe in her silence, her power, her call

If Wisdom could sing or whisper his secrets Eternity teaching the ways of the free

In my mind I can see them, I hear them and I feel them

For Love, Peace and Wisdom are all part of me

If Love has her freedom, and Peace her expression,

Surely Wisdom will grow like a flower in bloom

The seed has been planted, and tended and watered

By the prayers of the hopeful and the tears of the brave

We long to return to that place of still waters

And sit on the banks under some shady tree

In my mind I can see it, I hear it and I feel it

And Love, Peace and Wisdom are all that we need

Some call me a dreamer, some will call me a seeker

One who follows her stars on a quest for the truth

But every believer holds a deep hidden memory

Of a time when the earth was a flower in bloom

We long to return to that place of still waters

And sit on the banks under some shady tree

In my mind I can see it, I hear it and I believe it

And Love, Peace and Wisdom are the three golden keys”

Stay in love so peace and wisdom will flow.

Have a beautiful, loving day,

Peacefully, Jane
