Snow has been falling since early morning and a thick layer is covering the snow drop flowers that I could see yesterday in the garden. So I am sharing some Japanese Haiku to keep us in the awakening energies of spring! The good news is the Robins have returned to Meaford! Spring is here even if it doesn’t look like it today! Enjoy your day!
Kobayashi Issa (1763 – 1828) was a Japanese poet and priest. It is said that he wrote more than 20,000 haiku poems in his lifetime. Here are some of his spring haikus.
Every Tree

Every tree
With its calling card…
Spring buds.
Spring Peace

Spring peace–
After rain, a gang war
Garden sparrows.

Flowers bloom
Even then”

Morning snow falling
below roots stir quietly
with spring’s rhythm

Fly in moments of wonder
Birthing spring’s first love.”

Thank you, dear Jane. I love Haiku. Might compose a few myself. We’re having similar weather to yours. We were to visit friends in Blyth and walk in the woods… Decided to have a quiet day at home. Halfway through A Mind at Home with Itself by Byron Katie and husband Stephen Mitchell. The Work exercises already “work” for me even when doing them in my mind instead of paper. Questioning our stressful thoughts makes so much sense. Sure makes life so much more peaceful. I also borrowed from the library The Tapping Solution by Nick Ortner. My brother Pierre in Rockland is reading it and applying some of the techniques. It will be fun to share at Easter!
Enjoy your day and thank you for all the love and teachings you share.
Love
Michelle
Hi Michelle, I’d love to read your Haiku. Perhaps you could share some on our Sisters of the Spirit mandala page. I am glad you’ve found some more exercises for reflection and inner peace…a quiet mind, open heart, peaceful soul. I’ve been writing poetry today to move into a quiet, peaceful space. The snowy weather is great for staying inside and having time to write! Much love to you, my sweet friend
The last time I did Haiku was last year when I was experiencing acute back pain. When rereading those poems – a few weeks later – I ripped them up! When doing Haiku, I usually write them down on bits of paper. Not usually for keeps or sharing. But lately, I’ve been thinking of making up a photo book and adding the odd Haiku. My own of course. I think it would be fun. If brave enough, I might share my poems as you suggested…
