John O'Donohue

John O’Donohue wrote a wonderful book called Aman Cara.  In my Peaceful Way meditation group, we spent some lovely weeks reading it and reflecting on his insights about what is our relationship with our Aman Cara, our soul friend.

He also talks about aging and how our life comes together as we age . It is as if we gather together all the pieces of our journey. He says “old age offers the opportunity to integrate and bring together the multiplicity of directions that you have traveled.  It is a time when you can bring the circle of your life together to where your longing can be awakened and new possibilities can come alive in you.

I never thought of being older as a time of ‘new possibilities’ but now I am ‘older’ I realize how true this can be.  It definitely is a time where I feel more freedom.  I have let go of many regrets and disappointments as I realize I cannot change them.  Indeed, they were probably very good teachers for me.  I am not one who thinks life has to be about suffering and then if we get through our suffering, all is well.

We all have life challenges but we can learn at an earlier age how to cope with them and learn that we are creative beings that can make changes.  We are all creative beings.  Even if you think you are not creating, you are.  You have thoughts and opinions every day.  These thoughts are important because they influence your view of the world.

So how do we keep a positive view of the world when we see chaos?  We learn how to listen to our heart and we do this through learning to meditate or have quiet reflection time.  We learn to not hold onto anger and learn to forgive even the most difficult people or situations.  This can be difficult but if we really want to be ‘free’ and to have a happy life, we must transform and live from our hearts.

It is amazing how you will attract new people in your life as your energy lifts into a kinder and more compassionate place.  In the teaching of USUI Reiki, there are beautiful affirmations for practitioners of Reiki to integrate into their lives each day.  If you are having difficulty making changes, say these affirmations each day.

“Just for today,

I will not worry

I will not be angry

I will do my work honestly

I will give thanks for my many blessings

I will be kind to my neighbour and all living things”

If we all lived by these affirmations, the world would heal and live in peaceful communities.

Deep gratitude for John O’Donohue for all his beautiful poetry and blessings. John passed 10 years ago. His books are available on amazon.ca. https://www.johnodonohue.com/

Have a beautiful, peaceful day,

In my meditations, I see light energies, sometimes glowing or sparkling, and they seem to guide me inward into my quiet place where I feel loved and peaceful.  After I meditate, I write what I remember or sometimes poems flow.  I don’t always understand the messages or poems that I received after my meditations.  It may take more reflection to have new insights, but whatever I write I see as a gift and as an expression of love that dwells in my heart.  In these chaotic days, it really is a gift to find peace within!  Stellar Light is always flowing…taking us into deeper knowing…

Stellar Light

The rose unfolds into the stellar light

Wisdom blooms with tenderness

In the depths of timelessness

Within the halls of knowing

Notes of cosmic essences play

Rays of illumination bloom

Have a ‘stellar’ day!

The Wisdom Principle14713605_1146992388681166_752261687634770641_n

Do you want to be wise? Surprisingly, many people would shrug off such a question. They want to be other things instead – practical, successful, rich, respected – that don’t involve wisdom, which is reserved for old people, the wise gray heads of society. And yet the way someone’s life turns out depends on making wise choices. Every culture that values consciousness also values wisdom, so the topic is worth discussing over several posts, I think.

What is wisdom, exactly? Mature awareness. This isn’t defined by a set of rules. You can’t equate it with being cautious, prudent, and conservative (the behavior pattern of “wise old men”) or with any other fixed quality. Wisdom is judged by the things you devote your mind to.

Someone who wants to be wise has the following traits:

  • The desire to be real
  • The courage to step into the unknown
  • A refusal to be fooled by illusions
  • The need to feel fulfilled
  • The ability to go beyond material satisfactions
  • An intimation of other levels of existence

I think the most valuable trait is the first, the desire to be real. The opposite of “real” is “illusory,” and many external forces influence us to choose illusion over reality. They hold out a false sense of happiness rooted in money, possessions, and status, for example, and tell us that they best way to avoid the painful side of life is to devote hours to various distractions. But the world’s wisdom traditions teach something very different, that there is a level of the mind where the potential for creativity, intelligence, peace, and joy is unlimited.

If you devote yourself to finding this level of the mind you are a seeker after wisdom.

“Seeking” sounds less old-fashioned than wisdom to modern ears. Although given a religious connotation, seekers don’t have to be looking for God, and if they are, the goal will be reached in the same place as wisdom, their own consciousness (following Jesus’s dictum that the kingdom of heaven is within). Wisdom leads to wise choices, and here there is a pattern that marks the seekers of wisdom

Wise Choices

The decisions that shape a conscious life

When you are afraid and anxious, don’t trust the voice of fear.

When you are in a chaotic situation, find a way to bring order and calm.

When faced with an angry conflict, make no decision until the anger has subsided.

When meeting resistance to your ideas, consider the viewpoint of those who resist you.

When you are tempted to condemn someone else, see if what you hate in them is hidden away in yourself.

When you are in trouble, decide if the situation is one you should put up with, try to fix, or walk away. Having decided, act accordingly.

When you know the truth, speak up for it.

What links these choices is a trust in your own awareness and a refusal to be pulled this way and that by the chaos of the outer world. But I realize that modern life seems unsuited to the image of a wise savant sitting alone in his Himalayan cave or monk’s cell. That image is misleading, because the best way to live is wisely, bringing the highest rewards.

hadewijch

Women have long been calling for freedom of Self, to express their own thoughts and to live their truth.  Hadewijch of Antwerp lived in the 1200’s around Antwerp and was a Beguine who was determined to ‘live out what I am.’  Beguines were groups of women who lived together and served their communities but were not nuns.  I like the line from the poem below “One can know her only in herself.”  Hadewijch was a woman who found her truth, love and spiritual devotion and guidance from within…during her prayers and meditations.  Her spiritual awakening to love seemed to be unshaken by others…

My distress is great and unknown to men.

They are cruel to me, for they wish to dissuade me

From all that the forces of Love urge me to.

They do not understand it, and I cannot explain it to them.

I must then live out what I am;

What love counsels my spirit,

In this is my being: for this reason I will do my best.

Whatever vicissitudes men lead me through for Love’s sake

I wish to stand firm and take no harm from them.

For I understand from the nobility of my soul

That in suffering for sublime Love, I conquer.

I will therefore gladly surrender myself

In pain, in repose, in dying, in living,

For I know the command of lofty fidelity.

I do not complain of suffering for Love:

It becomes me always to submit to her,

Whether she commands in storm or in stillness.

One can know her only in herself.

This is an unconceivable wonder,

Which has thus filled my heart

And makes me stray in a wild desert.

– Hadewijch of Antwerp

Hadewijch of Antwerp

We know of Hadewijch only what comes from her writings. She wrote in the Brabant dialect of Middle Dutch, and she perhaps came from the area around Antwerp. She knew French and Latin and was familiar with contemporary chivalric poetry. She appears to have been a beguine, perhaps the mistress of a beguinage.

At some point she was criticized for her views, perhaps forced out of her community, and separated from women for whom she cared. Her need to keep in touch with them and to continue to teach and encourage them seems to have led to her writings: 31 letters (Brieven), 14 descriptions of visions (Visioenen), 45 poems in stanzaic form (Strofische Gedichten),and 16 to 29 poems in mixed form (Mengeldichten).

Hadewijch also compiled a “List of the Perfect,” naming 86 persons, living and dead, whom she described as “clothed in love”; the list includes a beguine who had been executed, probably in 1236. It is from the datable references in this list that Hadewijch has been assigned to the mid-1200s.

Jane’s Peaceful Way Tip of the Day

If you want peace in your life…be peaceful…

If you want abundance in your life…be grateful for your blessings…they will multiply…

If you want love in your life…be loving…

The concept of what we give out returns to us is an ancient one.  We get lost in today’s world of greed and chaos.  When you make a conscious decision to have more peace in your life, then all you do…all your work and relationships begin to change because you have changed.

Now I know we all have challenges that come in many forms.  But we are, whether we like it or not, are connected to one another.  What you decide, affects me in some way.  If you are a caring and compassionate person then you are contributing to our planet in a positive way.  However, if you are fixed and judgmental and believe only your way is the right way, then you are trying to control not to love.  Love forgives naturally and allows us to create together as we communicate, to be compassionate and to be tolerant of our differences.

We all have choices and we all have free will to live the way we decide.  I am not here to change your religious or political beliefs.  I am here to join with you to live a peaceful life.  From a peaceful heart, we will join and make good decisions for our families, communities and countries.

Love is a transformative power that is ever flowing in our universe.  It is within each heart.  We see it in a baby’s eyes and in the eyes of those who love us.  It truly is the most wondrous experience to feel loved.  We all have this inner power to share with one another.

Today, I am sending love to you because I love you! I know that I will feel your love and it will come into my life in many ways.  Join me in creating circles of flowing love today….send and open to receive…that’s the magic of giving!

Blessings of love,

Jane

The New Year is beginning with a beautiful full moon!  We know that the moon affects the tides of the oceans and its energy transforms us too. A full moon is always a great time to reflect and to envision your desires.  This January moon was especially beautiful  and the moon looked extra large as it hung in the sky.

“The first Full Moon of the year is named after howling wolves. In some cultures, it was known as Old Moon, Ice Moon, Snow Moon, and the Moon after Yule. Wolves howl a lot in January. The Wolf Moon on the night between 1 and 2 January 2018 is a Supermoon. The following Full Moon is also in January, on the 31. It has no given name, which makes it a Blue Moon. However, this particular Blue Moon will likely look red in some areas, because it will cause a total lunar eclipse, also known as a Blood Moon.”

In my book, In Silence, Discovering Self through Meditation, I wrote about my animal and nature teachers.  For over 40 years, I spent time each summer on a northern Ontario lake where I listened each night to the haunting howls of the loons and the wolves across the water. In my book is a section on the Wisdom of these teachers.  Wolf is one whom I especially love and I feel that the wolf is a wonderful teacher about living in a ‘pack’,  howling my own song and having a deep appreciation for all the teachers in my life and for the ancestral teachers who have passed on their wisdom to me…if only I had listened more to their teachings…but we all have to learn in our own way.  Life takes us up and down but teachers are always present within us and in our daily lives to guide us along. Then it is time when the student moves beyond and creates his or her own art…

From In Silence, Discovering Self through Meditation

“The Wisdom of WOLF  –Teacher

Hear the haunting call of Wolf

Awakening thoughts of old

Teachings of transcendence

Uniting with the stars of heaven

Protector of the pack

Teacher of love and wisdom

Your teachers are ever near.  They come and go during your lifetime as you need them.  You, like wolf, are also a great teacher.  Teach others to love through your radiance and forgiveness.  Call for your teachers and they will assist you.  Share you talents and skills to the fullest.”

Enjoy the transforming energy of the January moons – January 2 Wolf moon and 31st Blue Moon…allow new thoughts to come forth and allow teachers to help you to grow and evolve to reveal all your talents to flow…

Enjoy ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dsz4zNtHQ9k

As the New Year 2018 approaches, I have decided not to think about making ‘resolutions’, but to renew a vow I made in 2004, when I was ordained as a Minister of Spiritual Peacemaking by the Beloved Community with James Twyman.  I vowed to create inner peace in my life and to assist others…in my family and community to create a ‘peaceful way’.

However, there have been moments, even days, when I have moved away from being peaceful and into worry or relationship drama, both new and old memories.  Fortunately, I do not linger in anger or sadness for very long.  I move into my heart space during meditation.  I used to think about ‘forgiving others’ who may have hurt my feelings or whom I may have hurt, but now I send the love…see them surrounded by love and I see myself surrounded by love.  For me, this action is much more powerful and healing than thinking about how to forgive them.  Love just forgives naturally!

It makes my heart sing to envision 2018 filled with love.  I am blessed with a loving family and friends who fill my heart with love every day.  I know how blessed I am and am deeply grateful.  I am blessed by visitors from all over the world who visit my blog.  I thank you for your interest and for your desire for a peaceful way.

Welcome 2018!  We open our hearts to you.  We embrace our challenges and open our creative consciousness to find peaceful solutions in our lives.  In love, there is peace.

May we strive to stay centered in a loving heart in everything we create.  I am making a vow of peace for my soul, my Beloveds, my friends and my community.  May we connect around the world in one heart.

Happy New Year to all,

Peacefully, Jane
